Critic Reviews
The following reviews are used to calculate the overall reception for this game. All applicable scores are converted to our simplified rating system based on the specifics offered by each publication or the tone of each review. You can read more about how we do this here.
February 3, 2012 - Good - This is for those who lost their pocket money trying to get past that infuriating Krusty balloon, who made it all the way to Smithers before being obliterated by one of his thousand bombs, and who still remember Princess Kashmir as a legitimate Simpsons reference. For them, this is a loving HD re-release of a game that's very dear to their hearts.
February 7, 2012 - Good - I don't regret my time with The Simpsons one bit and would have downloaded the game whether I was reviewing it or not. I'm sure plenty of brawler fans are in the same boat and won't be swayed one way or the other by reviews. However, if you've never heard of this game before now, it probably won't have the same sprinkling of magic dust as it does for longtime fans.
February 7, 2012 - Good - For retro arcade fans who want to relive happy memories, or Simpsons fans hoping for a flashback to the days when the TV show was a cultural phenomenon, this is a fine little nostalgia fix. The 10-dollar download is a pretty good deal, too - beating the arcade game used to cost at least that much.
February 3, 2012 - Good - The Simpsons Arcade is a throwback to a bygone era, when an arcade game's ultimate goal to toss as many enemies at you as possible while pushing you along and gobbling up as many of your quarters as it possibly could. For those not weaned in the coin-op heyday, The Simpsons Arcade might feel too repetitive and too short. However, for those of us who were, The Simpsons Arcade is an absolute blast.
March 21, 2012 - Good - For all the boss battles and button mashing, The Simpsons Arcade Game is pretty easy. What there is though, is good. Especially if you love the classics. And from the stripped down theme tune to the 'Doh' Homer mutters every time he kicks someone in the back and can't run away, The Simpsons Arcade Game is a classic.
February 3, 2012 - Good - Whether you're tackling it solo or with friends, Simpsons Arcade likely won't take more than an hour to run through from start to finish, making the $10 price tag seem a little steep. Even so, there's a lot to take in, especially in this version.
February 8, 2012 - Mediocre - If you weren't around for it in the early 90s, it's still a fun diversion and could be an eye-opening experience for younger Simpsons fans that regard season nine as "the good ol' days." Ultimately, Simpsons Arcade is much richer with history than it is with content, but we'd easily play this over Lee Carvallo's Putting Challenge.
February 15, 2012 - Mediocre - Has a cow, isn't particularly excellent and comes in below okily-dokily doo - among other clichés. A cheery yet inadequate copy of a concept that was showing its age back in 1991. Savour the memories, but for Pete's sake don't play it again.
February 3, 2012 - Poor - Playing this will soil any fond memories you've desperately clung to through the years. This mind-numbingly dull brawler feels like an ancient relic compared to the wealth of new and exciting experiences available for Xbox Live Arcade.
