Critic Reviews
The following reviews are used to calculate the overall reception for this game. All applicable scores are converted to our simplified rating system based on the specifics offered by each publication or the tone of each review. You can read more about how we do this here.
October 10, 2007 - Good - Spider-Man: Friend Or Foe harkens back to the old-school beat-em-ups of yore. It may look somewhat crude and not have many weapons in its arsenal, but it sure knows how to pack a punch.
October 4, 2007 - Good - Some flashy action, a playful sense of humor, and a clean visual style bring this otherwise straightforward beat-'em-up to life.
October 8, 2007 - Good - Quality kids' games like this don't come along very often, so if you have a Spidey fan in your family, don't miss out on this one.
October 5, 2007 - Mediocre - Outside of being irritatingly youth-oriented, there's a fairly slick presentation and looks passably pretty on the 360, but unfortunately it follows the mediocre precedent set by last summer's Spider-Man 3.
October 23, 2007 - Poor - Friend or Foe's main punishable offence is for being bland to the point of irrelevance. Skill-free button-mashing combat, crappy AI, uninspired level-design, horribly sterile environments and a game so short you could finish most of it in an evening.
October 31, 2007 - Poor - Spider-Man: Friend or Foe is an obvious attempt to rush a product out before Mom and Dad finish their Christmas shopping. While it hosts a great set of playable characters, it doesn't make the best use of them, and the recycled enemies, boring level design, and low production values make for a brawler that's simply uninspired.
October 5, 2007 - Poor - Despite its downfalls, the game has its moments. Hero attacks are fun to see, many of the upgrades are well-designed and exciting to watch, and the voice acting is redeeming.
November 6, 2007 - Poor - Spider-man: Friend or Foe is another title that clearly isn't made for experienced gamers, and certainly won't please anyone aged in their teens or older. The visuals are basic, the storyline is laughable and the gameplay is overly simplistic.
