Critic Reviews
The following reviews are used to calculate the overall reception for this game. All applicable scores are converted to our simplified rating system based on the specifics offered by each publication or the tone of each review. You can read more about how we do this here.
August 27, 2007 - Good - Space Giraffe is an interesting title for a multitude of reasons, but the headache-inducing visuals and punishing difficulty will ultimately be a turn-off for some.
August 23, 2007 - Good - Space Giraffe is an extremely divisive game that only a specific subset of consumers will be able to get into, but it's most definitely a well-made game that refuses to compromise its warped vision for your benefit.
September 4, 2007 - Mediocre - When the electronic music is pounding and you're in tune with the game, it's an exciting, transcendent few seconds; it just never lasts, as you're brought back to earth by the sheer inanity of what you're involved in. All of the clever level names and silly sound effects give the game another dose of cleverly kitsch personality.

August 24, 2007 - Mediocre - [Space Giraffe is] pretty simple to play, and the game provides a helpful tutorial, but this is ultimately all for naught when it is virtually impossible to discern what is flying at the screen at any particular moment

August 28, 2007 - Mediocre - Jeff Minter has created the same type of product that aviation pioneer Howard Hughes crafted when he built the Spruce Goose. It's absolutely functional and undeniably one of a kind, the product of a truly creative mind - but it's so atypical and requires so much effort to appreciate that very few will find it truly worthwhile.
August 28, 2007 - Poor - Once you sink your teeth into Space Giraffe and witness the glory of what J Allard's face would have looked like if you were dosing on acid, ecstasy and heroine, all at once, you'll soon be thinking back to the 2D days of the primary colored Tempest.
