Critic Reviews
The following reviews are used to calculate the overall reception for this game. All applicable scores are converted to our simplified rating system based on the specifics offered by each publication or the tone of each review. You can read more about how we do this here.
February 10, 2012 - Good - Finding myself a little bored with my Battlefield 3 matches, GCI provides a wonderful change of pace, and others who fondly remember the more varied world of shooters pre-Call of Duty 4 will likely feel the same. I know I'll try to convince my friends to make the switch.
February 8, 2012 - Good - It's hard to argue the value included with this title, as it contains a substantial shooter experience, unique weapons and gadgets, and more than enough incentive to keep playing. FPS fans that have tired of the typical shooter formula should find plenty to like about this high-flying, slapstick-heavy download.
February 21, 2012 - Good - When I'm in a good, stable match with a full roster, I like Gotham City Imposters. I'm enjoying it more than I expected. It's a fun, rambunctious shooter with a terrible sense of humor and a needless license, but it's also blessed with an addictive leveling system and unlockables that can completely change the way your loadout plays.
February 13, 2012 - Good - Some players might find all the options overwhelming or the combat too fast paced, but anyone looking for something different within the genre should find a lot to like.

February 10, 2012 - Good - The action is fast-paced, the combat is smooth, and the new twists on familiar FPS tropes really do make Gotham City Impostors a game worth playing. Even if it is just to pretend to be a backyard Batman for a few nights.
February 23, 2012 - Good - Compared to other multiplayer shooters flooding the market, Gotham City Imposters may not offer the same breadth of game modes and map content, but it certainly stands out thanks to a great sense of self-referential humor and some oddball gadgetry. Even when the chuckles subside, the madcap action stands strong on its own.
February 11, 2012 - Good - Gotham City Impostors shows how far a clear sense of personality and humor can take you even when you're making the same old style of game.
February 10, 2012 - Good - Gotham City Impostors is a functional shooter with a sense of humor and a Batman license. It's got plenty to unlock, but it's not all that deep. Go, shoot, win. Over and over. If you're looking for a first-person shooter that doesn't take itself seriously, have at it, but don't expect a FPS revolution.
March 4, 2012 - Good - It's not the most original idea for a game and there may be some technical issues to be worked out. But, from the all the unlockables, the endless mixture of clothes, rewards, weapons, mods, and kill phases like 'Let me spray you with my awesome', Gotham City Impostors has plenty of awesome to go round.
February 14, 2012 - Good - The game boasts just three multiplayer modes [...] but there's a gauntlet of solo challenges that let you accumulate experience offline and hone your skills with the game's crazy gadgets, including a grapple gun, springy shoes, and glider wings. Irreverent yet addictively engaging, Gotham City Impostors may not be the shooter you expected, but it's definitely the one you deserve.
February 13, 2012 - Good - Gotham City Imposters adds daft gadgets and a massive dose of style and humour to an old template, and it's a hugely entertaining way to pass any number of evenings, once you get through the matchmaking. But its biggest problem is that the unlocking system and stingy coins system constitutes its own form of psychological warfare with the player. And there, it misfires.
February 20, 2012 - Good - Initial signs for the future of this game don't seem promising - the Xbox 360 playerbase seems to be on the wane less than a week after launch. A good idea with some unfortunate but devastating missteps, Gotham City Impostors still has enough time to avoid the custard pie flying at its head.
February 15, 2012 - Mediocre - This is a case of a game maker attempting to have its cake and eat it too -- charging the maximum price for a downloadable title while trying every trick in the book to squeeze extra cash along the way. And for a game that isn't even all that great in the first place, Gotham City's sheer gall boasts a level of ballsiness that almost demands respect. Not enough respect to save this game from the weight of its own mediocrity, however.
February 15, 2012 - Mediocre - When you're first given a custom class slot, more than half of it remains locked, and you'll be several hours into the game before you have an entire loadout of your own design. You can, of course, pay your way past it, swapping Microsoft Points for unlocks or XP boosts. Suddenly you realise that the titular impostors aren't the wannabe superheroes or villains; this is a freemium game, masquerading as a paid download.
