Critic Reviews
The following reviews are used to calculate the overall reception for this game. All applicable scores are converted to our simplified rating system based on the specifics offered by each publication or the tone of each review. You can read more about how we do this here.
February 9, 2012 - Mediocre - Dead Island did a fantastic job of realising a world shot to hell, and gave you the freedom to react to it however you wanted. In comparison, Ryder White's zombie adventure is a restricted and stilted affair that occasionally reminds us why Techland's original game was so much fun.
February 3, 2012 - Mediocre - Conceptually, a more streamlined, shooter-based spinoff of Dead Island sounds like a great premise. Sadly, this new chapter doesn't offer a whole lot new aside from its emphasis on gunplay. The storyline does shed some light on the origin of the game's viral outbreak, but this reveal, too, is a letdown.
February 3, 2012 - Poor - Anything that was good about Dead Island has been crudely ripped out, and whatever remains has been served up in such a way that it simply isn't fun, even at the basic "look at me, I'm killing zombies" level.
February 8, 2012 - Poor - Ryder White, the new DLC, isn't that game. In fact it takes what I loved about Dead Island and strips it away. There's no leveling, no skill point allotments. Nothing. Just a bad ass Ryder White killing zombies and frankly - that's simply not enough.
