November 15, 2007 - If anything, Blacksite: Area 51 has terrible timing. Over the summer, this could've been a big hit, even with its problems. However, it just can't hold up against the better shooters. It's a decent rental, though, especially if you have a nagging need to turn aliens into big piles of goo.

November 13, 2007 - Aside from a few minor graphical bugs and hiccups, BlackSite is unquestionably competent at what it does. It's just that what it does isn't particularly notable, or innovative, or memorable -- in either a good or a bad way.

November 30, 2007 - With a desperately unfinished feel about it, Midway has ended up rushing a mediocre game onto the shelves at precisely the point when there's an embarrassment of riches for shooter fans. Even if you were a big fan of Area 51, this is one game that should come with government restrictions attached.

December 17, 2007 - When compared to anything other than its predecessor, BlackSite just doesn't do enough to compete with this year's great first-person shooter releases.

November 27, 2007 - For the most part, BlackSite is a boilerplate first-person shooter that has a handful of good moments. As it stands, the game suffers from some annoying issues that make it difficult to recommend.

November 19, 2007 - As a shooter, [BlackSite is] an awfully generic game that we're hard-pressed to recommend among the smorgasbord of significantly better FPS titles out there right now.

November 16, 2007 - When stacked up against juggernauts like Halo 3, The Orange Box, and BioShock, BlackSite: Area 51 isn't worth the steep price of admission. FPS fan-boys might decide to give this one a rental, but the experience will likely be forgotten less than a day after completion.

November 17, 2007 - The fact of the matter is that BlackSite: Area 51 is just like every other run-of-the-mill FPS out there. You can find better multiplayer in Halo 3, you can find a better storyline in Bioshock, and you can find a livelier environment in just about anything.

December 6, 2007 - Other than the odd set-piece, Blacksite has nothing to warrant recommending it above the other big hitters and some severe technical issues drag it down considerably.

November 29, 2007 - BlackSite: Area 51 features a handful of fun moments blasting giant aliens, but there's too much time spent in forgettable shootouts, the story fails to engage, and it's so riddled with bugs that not even the Orkin Man can feel safe purchasing it.
