Critic Reviews The following reviews are used to calculate the overall reception for this game. All applicable scores are converted to our simplified rating system based on the specifics offered by each publication or the tone of each review. You can read more about how we do this here.
April 28, 2010 - Excellent - For the first time in a soccer game, you can take every team eligible for the 2010 World Cup to the finals -- and if that means I have to put up with North Korean fans chanting in Spanish, well, it's a sacrifice I'm willing to make.
April 23, 2010 - Excellent - 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa is solid and intelligent, it allows for speed and flair as well as technique and measured build up play. It has a variety of approaches at its disposal and it does all of them well. In fact, it's hard to see where it could improve.
April 27, 2010 - Excellent - The enhancements to the goal kicks, and general tweaking has made virtual football even better than it was before, however for us the real highlight came from the graphical overhaul. The jump from FIFA 10 to EA 2010 FIFA World Cup might not be a big one, but the refinements presented makes the entire experience worthwhile.
May 9, 2010 - Excellent - Whether you are a hardcore football gamer like myself, or a withering old man with only the capacity to use two fingers and a thumb, 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa will not only allow you to compete at your own level, but it will captivate you with the ecstasy of the tournament.
April 23, 2010 - Excellent - As a solo game, it's as authentic as you'd hope, and the scenarios prolong longevity - but the focused approach is inherently limiting. Effortless as they make it look, EA have set a dauntingly high watermark for FIFA 11 - leaving Pro Evo with all the busy work to catch up.
April 27, 2010 - Excellent - If you're the type of FIFA fanatic that gets downright emotional about the real-life World Cup, you'll no doubt enjoy this full priced tie-in if you've got the cash to burn.
April 30, 2010 - Excellent - 2010 World Cup takes the best football game out at the moment at improves on it, and you have to take your hat off to EA who must have known that any old tie-in release would have sold well given the excitement surrounding this year's tournament - they could easily have not made the effort.
April 23, 2010 - Excellent - If you don't own FIFA 10, and are looking for a football video game to help fuel your World Cup fever, then you should absolutely buy this game.
April 23, 2010 - Good - 2010 FIFA World Cup isn't a cynical release, at least, but it was always doomed to be obsolete within months, and by that token it's hard to offer more than a guarded recommendation - even though those who do make the investment will probably enjoy their footballing summer more than the numpties we're sending to South Africa.
April 27, 2010 - Good - Thanks to the new two-button controls, it's more accessible than any soccer game has been this generation, Captain Your Country isn't perfect, but still solid, and the online is sound. As tournament tie-ins go, 2010 FIFA World Cup is now the standard.
April 26, 2010 - Good - There's no doubt that World Cup 2010 delivers a great performance on the pitch, but this game fails to give you the full qualifying experience elsewhere. Thus, it doesn't really tell the full tale of the World Cup.
April 26, 2010 - Good - If you love soccer and can't wait to get your kicks in, 2010 FIFA World Cup will give you your money's worth. The online and offline competition, gameplay enhancements and presentation will make you feel like you're in an actual tournament, and Story of Qualifying will put your skills to the test.
April 30, 2010 - Good - Yes, you can make the argument that dropping 120 bucks for two similar soccer games in a six month stretch is asking a tad much, but when the actual World Cup starts play in June and you want to get in on the act you're going to want a copy of this game - and EA Sports knows it.
April 28, 2010 - Good - There are some lengthy load times in between matches, and it doesn't offer the same breadth of content that FIFA 10 does, but [World Cup South Africa] improves upon that game in enough ways that you should consider adding it to your collection even if you already own that game.
April 26, 2010 - Good - There's no question that 2010 FIFA World Cup is a very impressive game of soccer at its core. It has many of the frills that you'd expect from a World Cup presentation, even if a few of them are more annoying than not. If you enjoyed FIFA 10, I'd say that this one is certainly worth a look.
April 23, 2010 - Good - We're sure that you'll already have made a decision to purchase or otherwise based on your general footballing enthusiasm and how deeply you've dug into FIFA 10's not-inconsiderable amount of content. Rest assured, though: those hard-earned and increasingly less valuable pounds won't have been wasted should you fall on the right side of the fence.
April 30, 2010 - Good - It's going to come down to how much retailers slice the price: we'd happily pay £25 for something of this quality to play alongside the tournament. A must buy then, but only if the price is right.
April 23, 2010 - Good - 2010 FIFA World Cup is a brilliant football game and a perfect example of how to build a proper game around a one-off tournament. It's hands-down the best football game out there at the moment until FIFA 11 at least.
May 4, 2010 - Good - As its own game, it's everything you could ask for and more. However, most of its audience will have played FIFA in the last couple of years, and for those people, everything is what you've come to expect. I'm sure you could argue: if it isn't broken, why fix it? But equally, if it isn't new, why release it?
May 6, 2010 - Good - If you want the very best football simulation that money can buy and a well-developed accompaniment to the summer festivities, then World Cup 2010 is undoubtedly recommended.
April 30, 2010 - Good - A lot of work has gone into 2010 FIFA World Cup; it's a slick, solid video game which offers more content than one would expect for a spin-off. However, whether or not it will hold any appeal beyond the end of the tournament in South Africa is debatable.
April 23, 2010 - Good - A slightly cringe-worthy 'Two-Button Control' system will no doubt help to attract the uninitiated to 2010 FIFA World Cup, but this isn't just a game for 'prawn sandwich' footie fans. It's a game that'll appeal just as much to hardened FIFA veterans who've just about squeezed everything they can out of FIFA 10 and need something to tide them over until FIFA 11.
