Critic Reviews The following reviews are used to calculate the overall reception for this game. All applicable scores are converted to our simplified rating system based on the specifics offered by each publication or the tone of each review. You can read more about how we do this here.
June 26, 2009 - Good - So, while The Conduit didn't thrill us, we still think it's a solid first effort and one of the Wii's best shooters so far. Just don't expect it to revolutionize anything and you'll enjoy the bug hunt.
July 27, 2009 - Good - At the end of the day, The Conduit is a triumph in technical achievement in terms of nailing down a brilliant interactive FPS control system - and is well worth playing to experience that alone - but without any substance to back it up, the whole experience is a bit, for want of a better term... "meh".
June 26, 2009 - Good - Wii owners have been waiting a while for a top-notch FPS to call their own, and although the single-player mode has its faults, The Conduit's multiplayer experience helps to lessen the pain.
June 23, 2009 - Good - The truth is you probably wouldn't bat an eye at The Conduit had it appeared on PC, PS3 or Xbox 360. But there are millions of Wii owners out there starved for a classic FPS experience, and it's beyond fair to say that hardcore hopes ride high upon the game's success.
June 24, 2009 - Good - The Conduit deserves credit for getting the most important stuff right. In spite of the disappointing single-player campaign, it delivers as a shooter on the strength of its multiplayer component.
June 22, 2009 - Good - Supposing you are a single console owner, High Voltage's shooter not only delivers a fun single-player quest, but an engaging online mode that will keep you fragging complete with WiiSpeak support for months to come.
July 7, 2009 - Good - Any way you slice it, squish it, and otherwise drive it back from whence it came, The Conduit is a triumph.
June 25, 2009 - Mediocre - In the heat of this action, The Conduit comes closest to realizing its aspirations to become the first epic shooter for the Wii. By comparison, the best moments in single-player only highlight the missed potential for The Conduit to be more than the rather ordinary game it turned out to be.
July 10, 2009 - Mediocre - Its efforts shame everyone but Metroid developer Retro who's gone before, and certainly do prove that you can do a great FPS on the Wii. It's just that The Conduit - slender, derivative, mechanical and uninspired - isn't it.
June 23, 2009 - Mediocre - Judging the game from a technology standpoint, the developers deserve praise for pushing the Wii into territory that many probably didn't expect it to go. Yet the actual content has little to offer for veteran shooter fans, and Wii owners who aren't Wi-Fi enabled would be better served with Metroid Prime 3: Corruption.
June 26, 2009 - Mediocre - Wasted potential is the main theme for The Conduit because its technical prowess is overshadowed by misguided design decisions pasted onto a generic science fiction universe.
July 27, 2009 - Mediocre - Superb controls aside, when properly assessed by the FPS genre's merciless yardstick of quality, The Conduit echoes the same linear design disappointments as Resistance: Fall of Man and finds itself languishing uncomfortably close to Turning Point: Fall of Liberty in terms of dour quality.
July 10, 2009 - Mediocre - Wii owners looking for a pure FPS will likely plough through the campaign and spend enough time with the multiplayer to make their purchase worthwhile, but anyone who games across all major platforms will wonder why anyone made a fuss about The Conduit in the first place.
July 10, 2009 - Poor - ˜Danger! High Voltage Software' shouts the developer's logo. On this evidence, it's a warning that should be taken seriously.
July 13, 2009 - Poor - The Conduit is the best the Wii has to offer in terms of FPS controls and online support, but the game is outclassed in nearly every way by first-person shooters on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
June 30, 2009 - Poor - If you're just comparing it to other action games released on the Wii, The Conduit does some interesting things with its control and with its multiplayer modes. But other aspects, like the poor story, bland design, and awful voice acting, would be just as bad on any platform.
