Critic Reviews
The following reviews are used to calculate the overall reception for this game. All applicable scores are converted to our simplified rating system based on the specifics offered by each publication or the tone of each review. You can read more about how we do this here.
October 27, 2009 - Excellent - Guitar Hero usually receives most of the headlines, but DJ Hero is without question Activision's coolest rhythm game. The turntable has its drawbacks, but that soundtrack will give you a new appreciation for music and perhaps satisfy your DJ fantasy. Just don't pass this off as another game with a useless peripheral.
October 26, 2009 - Excellent - A little headroom has been left for improvement with a sequel, particularly in the head-to-head battles and the way leaderboards display scores. But DJ Hero is already the most exciting music game around and is guaranteed to get the party started.
October 30, 2009 - Excellent - DJ Hero is an exciting and brilliantly realised package, and while it may not offer the fantastic co-op experience of some of its contemporaries, its slick gameplay and fantastic presentation make it a must-have title in an overcrowded genre.
November 9, 2009 - Excellent - If you enjoy mash-ups, you will enjoy this title. If you are a hardcore rhythm game player, you will enjoy this title. If you even have a slight preference toward playing any type of rhythm game, all it'll take is one play of a song to make you a fan of this new entry in the ever-growing rhythm genre.
November 9, 2009 - Good - Activision's DJ Hero celebrates the origins of turntable-based music in appropriate fashion: It pushes the rhythm-game craze forward by swinging back around to its roots. The experience of playing captures the DJ's allure and gives players a glimpse of hip-hop's origins.
October 30, 2009 - Good - Weak multiplayer and control issues prevent it from being the instant classic Guitar Hero was four year ago, but FreeStyleGames has nevertheless created a slick and enormously enjoyable music game that deserves to succeed and evolve.
October 30, 2009 - Good - By all means get DJ Hero if you're a fan of music games and have a wad of cash burning a hole in your pocket, because Freestyle Games has put together a fantastic music title. Everyone else will just have to wait until the price drops.
