Critic Reviews
The following reviews are used to calculate the overall reception for this game. All applicable scores are converted to our simplified rating system based on the specifics offered by each publication or the tone of each review. You can read more about how we do this here.
November 3, 2009 - Good - It contains many of the mechanics that made Guitar Hero 5 a much-improved sequel. Although it has some of that game's quirks, it adds some charm of its own. It's almost impossible to please everyone all the time with a music game, but for the less hardcore just looking for hits, Band Hero nails all the notes.
November 5, 2009 - Good - If you haven't played the latest Guitar Hero or are looking for something that all ages of players can get into, [this is] a respectable choice. However, its mostly flat song list and almost complete lack of anything significantly new may have you feeling a sense of deja vu that can't be shaken.
December 2, 2009 - Good - If you are looking for a solid entry point into the rhythm game craze or have some youngsters running around that you don't exactly want to expose to some of the more mature music in other rhythm games Band Hero is a solid choice.
November 20, 2009 - Good - The bottom line is Band Hero is going to be an awesome game to those who happen to fall neatly within its target demographic. Serious Guitar Hero fans who prefer head banging, feedback, and stage diving in their rock games will want to die half-way through the game - assuming they even make it that far.
November 3, 2009 - Good - Band Hero is a good game, but it lacks any kind of spark that makes it feel unique. In the end, this is one of the examples people will point to when they talk about Activision milking the Guitar Hero franchise for all it's worth - even though this time the milk is quenching the thirst of every Taylor Swift fan out there with a plastic guitar.
November 5, 2009 - Good - Band Hero is the game to get if you're not bothered about rock music. If you prefer Duffy to death metal and Counting Crows to KoRn then this should come as a pleasing alternative to Guitar Hero. For everyone else, shrug your shoulders and keep walking.
November 9, 2009 - Good - Band Hero is strikingly close to Activision's former release; it's a game that comes across more as GH with a different musical focus, rather than as a new IP in its own right. Band Hero is far from being a bad game, but somewhere along the line it seems the new franchise's focus became a little confused.
December 5, 2009 - Good - Fans of the series, especially younger ones, will be happy with this spin-off as long as they understand that this is ultimately a large track pack in a different package.
November 12, 2009 - Mediocre - Band Hero is pretty much Guitar Hero 5 with boring, bland music peppered in-between the upbeat hits. There are tons of people out there in the world that haven't cultivated a complex set of music tastes. They just dig toe-tapping, catchy music. Band Hero is for them.
