The following reviews are used to calculate the overall reception for this game. All applicable scores are converted to our simplified rating system based on the specifics offered by each publication or the tone of each review. You can read more about how we do this here.
February 20, 2012 - Excellent - If you like Wipeout and are undecided about whether to get a Vita, your decision just got that much easier. If the Vita continues to feature games of this sort of class, it's going to be something very special indeed. Highly recommended!
February 20, 2012 - Good - Of the games available at launch, Wipeout 2048 may be the best example of the Vita's graphical power and the worst example of its load times. The landscape of this futuristic arcade racer is rendered in luscious detail and with smooth motion, which helps create a strong sensation of speed for a five-inch screen.
February 16, 2012 - Good - The hover-racing in Wipeout still hasn't changed much since it premiered on the original PlayStation back in 1995, but this is by far the most polished portable version of the game.
February 22, 2012 - Good - Long load times and sensory overloads aside, this is a fantastic WipEout game and a staggering visual showcase. Fast, frantic and utterly gorgeous.
February 13, 2012 - Good - Stats are useful for when you're not sitting with a pen and paper, recording progress in almost OCD detail. Like the menus they're mathematical and precise: from your use of weapons the game will calculate your offensive and defensive tendencies in percentages, as well as the amount of Speed Pads you go over per second. It's window dressing - but, like the game as a whole, you can't fail to be impressed by it.
February 13, 2012 - Good - Series fans will find a lot to love here, with plenty of new challenges, though those new to the series may find themselves frustrated with touchy controls and unforgiving levels. If you really need to go super-fast at Vita's launch, this one could fit the bill. Otherwise, there are more accessible launch racers out there.
February 13, 2012 - Good - Wipeout 2048 conjures a less fanciful racing grid than we've seen previously, and it's also a less immaculate, less finessed racer than the home console iterations of the series we've played down the years. Instead, it's an attempt to try something new on the newest of platforms. While it may not offer something for everyone, when it flies, it soars.
January 26, 2012 - Good - WipEout is several steps down from the series' best, but is still a robust and muscular racer, and one that with its solid online and dazzling visuals, does much to recommend its host hardware - doing enough to suggest that the Vita's own future is bright.
February 13, 2012 - Good - If you're a fan of the series, or a fan of racing games, this is a title you're going to want to pick up. Though, if Wipeout has worn out its welcome for you, besides the visuals and the soundtrack, there's not much here that will change your mind.
February 13, 2012 - Good - It's a competent racer, but Wipeout 2048 feels too familiar for its own good. Long loads and underwhelming touch controls don't help the matter, and may dissuade anyone who isn't a longtime fan of the series. If you need a solid racer right away when you get your Vita, Wipeout 2048 will suffice. However, others may want to wait until something fresher comes along.

February 27, 2012 - Good - The singleplayer component alone is worth the time and money, easy to access, difficult to master, and deeply satisfying to play; combined with stunning graphics and the surprising presence of a pervasive artistic statement - rare in video-games generally, let alone racing games - 2048 is a fascinating and entertaining beast.
February 13, 2012 - Good - Wipeout 2048 is all about the familiar: the feel of the ships, the layout of the tracks, and the punch of a rocket. This is a game you've played countless times before and on numerous Sony consoles. But does that make it any less thrilling? Fortunately not.

February 13, 2012 - Good - At its best, it's incredibly fast and beautiful; breathless, even. The little compromises chip away at the experience though, from the framerate to the slightly chunkier handling. It's a tremendous racer as always; but as far as grand ambitions go, Liverpool has fallen a tiny bit short.
February 14, 2012 - Good - The Wipeout series goes back to the original PlayStation, and yet another high-speed racing sequel has been prepped for the launch of the PlayStation Vita. Wipeout 2048 clearly references the original blueprint for its futuristic speed machines and courses, overlaying Vita-specific features such as online and cross-platform play to better match the new platform.
February 16, 2012 - Good - WipEout 2048 is the perfect advertisement for what the PS Vita is capable of in terms of in-game aesthetics. It also serves to demonstrate that the system's games do not need to engage with all of its features to pass Sony's certification criteria. If you're getting a Vita, you really should take this for a spin.
February 13, 2012 - Good - Up there with the best in the series, WipEout 2048 is an essential title for Vita owners. It's only really held back by the fact it's the ninth in the series, so we're accustomed to it by now. It's still great, though.
February 13, 2012 - Good - 2048 is a must-have racer, providing an experience that simultaneously pushes the series forward while holding on to everything that makes it great.
February 21, 2012 - Good - Wipeout is a pretty standard racing title, but still pretty entertaining. Vita owners with a racing itch should find Wipeout will suit their needs.
February 13, 2012 - Good - For a series that's traditionally been used to extol the virtues of advancing technology, it's perhaps a little amusing that WipEout 2048's best moments are hidden behind those ever-impressive layers of flash and spectacle, and hitting a do-or-die speed pad that's the difference between taking the corner perfectly and smashing your shiny future-bonnet into a wall is as thrilling in 2012 as it was in 1995.
February 18, 2012 - Mediocre - If you've been enjoying the quality PlayStation Network and PlayStation Portable offerings over the past few years, you'll find more of the same in Wipeout 2048. The online features should have been a selling point, but technical issues cause them to be more of a sizable defect.
February 16, 2012 - Mediocre - The frame rate is usually pretty stable, but it's stable at a lower rate that makes all the action look choppy and feel sluggish. Add in a bunch of other racers and have them all firing weapons and you'll find that even this less-than-ideal frame rate takes a noticeable hit. With these problems, the whole thing is effectively neutered. The assets are often wonderful, but the execution is decidedly lacking.
