February 13, 2012 - Excellent - With Uncharted: Golden Abyss we have the first must-buy for Sony's PlayStation Vita. It takes the series' much-loved gameplay, storytelling and presentation, and adds on innovative touch and tilt features to make a game that fits perfectly alongside its predecessors. Prepare to be amazed by a portable videogame.
January 10, 2012 - Excellent - Uncharted: Golden Abyss is an essential purchase. It really shows off what the new handheld can do, squeezing the best bits of home console gaming into your pocket, adding some new modes of interaction and taking nothing away in the process.
February 21, 2012 - Excellent - While pricey -- $49.99 at retail or $44.99 in the PlayStation Store -- Golden Abyss is a perfect, and picturesque, purchase to help you get acquainted with the Vita.
February 13, 2012 - Good - If this is the caliber of experience Vita is capable of churning out at launch, I can only imagine what gifted developers like Sony Bend will be capable of doing a few years down the road. [...] Sony Bend has offered a tantalizing taste of Vita's potential... despite their best efforts to muck it up by showing off Vita's capabilities.
February 27, 2012 - Good - Abyss is hardly a nuke-the-fridge moment for Uncharted. But the series lives and dies by its heart and spectacle, and this one is missing too much of both.
February 15, 2012 - Good - Despite the Vita-control-induced annoyances, [...] Nathan Drake couldn't have asked for a better introduction to the portable realm. When it's not getting in its own way, Golden Abyss delivers everything you'd expect from an Uncharted game in a package you can take with you on the subway.
February 13, 2012 - Good - [Sony Bend have] successfully transferred the finest experience on PS3 to a new machine, no doubt with strict instructions to make full use of all that machine's eclectic functionality no matter how logically it can be applied to gameplay.
February 13, 2012 - Good - Even if Golden Abyss starred a power-armoured space marine fighting his way across the cardboard-box planet, it would still be a robust thirdperson shooter, the likes of which we've simply never seen on a handheld. The core Uncharted experience is still here, in other words. It's stripped a little bare, but it's just about enough.
December 30, 2011 - Good - While the absence of multiplayer means it won't last you as long as previous instalments, new control options have allowed the developers to line the seams of Drake's adventure with flashy tassels and detailing that make for a varied and entertaining outing - perhaps even more so than its big brothers.
February 13, 2012 - Good - Uncharted: Golden Abyss comes out of the game with a couple of stumbles, but shows promise for the series on the Vita. Instead of filling the title with gimmicks, I wished that they focused on creating a good experience for the player. Touch screens don't sell systems; amazing games do.
February 13, 2012 - Good - The base level of craftsmanship on display in Golden Abyss means you'll get your money's worth - but not a penny more. I wish all the perspiration expelled in the making of the game had been complemented by a bit more inspiration.
February 23, 2012 - Good - It is a stunning exhibition piece for the Vita's power and graphical capabilities, and it's a smart, modern take on treasure-hunting fantasies with enjoyable characters and classical themes.
February 21, 2012 - Good - Golden Abyss has a lot of flaws, but it does show off the potential of the PlayStation Vita. It was a disappointing experience in a number of ways, mainly because of poor design choices. But the game got better over time, and it was not so bad that I would quit in disgust. Rather, I became more interested in the story and went on to see it through its ending.
February 13, 2012 - Good - Despite its problems [...] Golden Abyss still succeeds in delivering some intense, entertaining action and combat. It's not quite the full-blown Uncharted experience on the move that you might have hoped for, but it's damn close. And for that, it should be commended.
February 13, 2012 - Good - If you boot up Uncharted: Golden Abyss expecting the full console experience you might be disappointed. It's mostly there - the charm, the gameplay, the visual presentation - but there are some key elements missing. [...] It's still an extremely solid cover shooter with a strong story and some fine platforming elements, but as far as an Uncharted game, it comes up short of what we've come to expect.
February 13, 2012 - Good - Uncharted: Golden Abyss is a powerful tech demo for the PlayStation Vita, but it's also an engaging game that's a blast to play in spurts. Touch screen use is a little heavy-handed and it's missing those "wow" moments we're used to getting from the franchise, but it's a solid action adventure with production values strong enough to quell any sense of system buyer's remorse.
February 13, 2012 - Good - It's a beautiful, fun game with tons of collectibles, plenty of laughs, and some cool twists on a franchise PlayStation fans know so well. It's just not an instant classic like the other entries in the series. Still, not too shabby for Sony Bend's first crack at the Uncharted legacy.
February 17, 2012 - Good - This is still an Uncharted game. Every Uncharted game comes with a certain base level of precision and execution, and that hasn't been lowered here. Golden Abyss gets a pass, but it doesn't come with honours.
February 13, 2012 - Good - Though Uncharted: Golden Abyss brings a little too much reality to Drake's day-to-day by making him polish artifacts in gimmicky touchscreen nonsense, there's still a good, if formulaic, adventure to be had. In other words, this might just sell you on the Vita... whenever it's not selling you on the Vita.
February 29, 2012 - Good - Despite the narrative failings and occasional technologically mandated frippery, Uncharted: Golden Abyss lets you bring Nathan Drake on to the train, half-tuck and rapier wit in tow. As launch games go, you could do a whole heck of a lot worse.
March 9, 2012 - Good - It's a good effort, and still has lots of good points to enjoy throughout the game, but unfortunately will go down in history as the weakest of the series.
February 23, 2012 - Good - Having [...] time-tested gameplay on the train home rather than having to fight for control of the TV is a valuable asset, and The Golden Abyss translates the console feel over to a handheld incredibly well. Innovative it ain't but hey, all games can't be broccoli. There has to be some junk food thrown in there every once in a while.
February 23, 2012 - Good - The usual Uncharted matinee charm is present and correct, the story serving as an entertaining prequel to the PS3 titles. Not perfect, but a terrific first outing for Drake on a handheld. And it will undoubtedly be the first game you will show to your friends on your shiny new toy.
February 13, 2012 - Good - This is an enjoyable game, and Studio Bend has proved itself capable of competently shepherding Sony's trusted franchises, but its limited spectacle and lacking script also make it the worst entry in the Uncharted series since the original Drake's Fortune.
February 17, 2012 - Mediocre - Another entertaining outing for Nathan Drake, but in its transition to the small screen Uncharted has lost much of its spectacle. The cracks seem to widen when there's less bombast to distract you.
February 13, 2012 - Mediocre - The whole thing feels like a "B Team" sort of feel to it, but there's just enough Uncharted here to ensure that the experience isn't a total loss. It helps that there isn't any sort of other experience like this available on the Vita right now, though even that is tempered by the game's $50 retail price tag.
