Critic Reviews The following reviews are used to calculate the overall reception for this game. All applicable scores are converted to our simplified rating system based on the specifics offered by each publication or the tone of each review. You can read more about how we do this here.
February 13, 2012 - Excellent - With its massive array of play options, courses, unlockables, and online challenges, not to mention its portability and always-on 3G connectivity, this is easily the biggest and best Hot Shots Golf game yet.
February 13, 2012 - Excellent - [Hot Shots] Golf is that rarest of things - a game that manages to be fun for beginners, advanced players, and even people who don't actually like golf that much. You've probably dabbled with a good walk spoiled in the past, but you're unlikely to have played anything as good as this before.
February 16, 2012 - Good - Hot Shots Golf isn't the kind of game most people will find themselves buying a system for, but it's easily the type of game an existing system owner should check out once they're done with those must-have purchases.
February 13, 2012 - Good - Unadventurous [Hot Shots] Golf may be, but it's wonderfully executed, and its presence at Vita's launch is welcome. With their endlessly smiling characters, cheery J-tunes and bright skies, [Hot Shots] Golf titles are the best Nintendo-esque games a Sony console has ever seen, and this latest iteration is no exception.
February 16, 2012 - Good - Conservative, but still rich and engaging, [Hot Shots Golf] will never stand centre stage in the Vita's launch line-up. But in truth, it's one of the strongest launch titles, offering taut fun and challenge in a rapid-fire, quick-load manner that's perfectly suited to the handheld. It may not offer a vision of the portable future that Sony's creative dreamers were hoping for, but as a video game, it works small wonders.
February 21, 2012 - Good - Being predictably solid is both a blessing and curse for the Hot Shots series, and at the end of the day I try to not overthink the fact that World Invitational is simply a fun experience. I approach it a lot like my real-life golf game, where I just try to enjoy being out in the sunshine and not get too wound up at the numbers on the score card.
March 14, 2012 - Good - Look past certain design flaws - and certain mechanical issues [...] and you'll find a highly enjoyable, highly addictive golf game that's accessible to all types of player, from the kid in the back seat during a car ride to the most dedicated gamer.
February 22, 2012 - Good - Developer Clap Hanz has produced a thoroughly enjoyable and addictive game, filled with a simplicity that makes it accessible for players of all abilities. Finally, I can forget my dreams of sinking a hole-in-one at the U.S. Open. Despite my sporting failures, World Invitational makes me feel like a champion.
February 15, 2012 - Good - Hot Shots Golf: World Invitational doesn't push the Vita in unique ways nor does it push digital golfing to a new plane. But won't even care about those things when you're trying to sink an important putt on the 18th green.
February 13, 2012 - Good - A Hot Shots game for Vita was pretty much a certainty, so we're glad it turned out so well. Unlike many other launch titles, World Invitational takes advantage of the Vita's capabilities and offers lots of fun in both solo and multi. With such a solid foundation, the inevitable sequel clearly has its work cut out for it.
February 22, 2012 - Good - World Invitational may not possess the sheer system-selling appeal of an Uncharted: Golden Abyss, but it's still a solid, packed launch game that old hands as well as rookies should consider grabbing alongside their Vitas.
February 17, 2012 - Good - The long-running series is on fine form here, and finds a comfortable home on the PS Vita. As always, the graphics are sensational - almost photo-realistic courses blended with anime-style Japanese avatars. This, it has to be said, is probably the most Nintendo-like game of Sony's entire line-up.
February 21, 2012 - Good - There's not enough depth to justify long play sessions, but long sessions are not really the point here. What [Hot Shots] Golf does is provide a great escape in short bursts and it packs just enough in to keep you coming back to it time and again.
February 23, 2012 - Good - Each hole only requires a minute or two to complete, making Hot Shots Golf: World Invitational perfect for pick-up-and-play sessions. For a quick, casual fix, it's definitely worth a shot.
February 29, 2012 - Good - With all the other top-quality Vita titles to try, I know that Everybody's Golf won't appear on the radar for many. But I guarantee that many of you will be surprised at how many hours of enjoyment you'll get out of this game - and this is from someone who thinks golf is just a great way to get struck by lightning.
February 22, 2012 - Good - It gets the basics right and backs up its tight gameplay mechanics with tidy visuals and portable-friendly loading times - something that a few of the higher profile launch games can't claim. The dev team certainly played it safe, but going for PAR isn't a bad thing.
February 21, 2012 - Mediocre - As a handheld title it succeeds only in its most basic aim - providing bite-sized chunks of entertainment. If, however, you're looking to impress people with all the things Vita can do that PSP can't, you'd best look elsewhere.
February 16, 2012 - Mediocre - Hot Shots Golf: World Invitational has a nice, colorful approach to golf and a respectable set of multiplayer options. But the disconnect between the amount of time required to plan a shot and the milliseconds needed to mess it all up sparks ample frustrations.
