Critic Reviews
The following reviews are used to calculate the overall reception for this game. All applicable scores are converted to our simplified rating system based on the specifics offered by each publication or the tone of each review. You can read more about how we do this here.
October 2, 2009 - Excellent - Beaterator is not the perfect music-crafting software, but for the price, it's damn good. With perseverance, Beaterator provides the tools for making some really cool tracks, or at least backing beats that you can then add your own instruments/vocals over.
October 12, 2009 - Good - As far as proper mixers on PC such as Q Base and Reason go, Beaterator is obviously far short of what could be defined as 'high end', though it won't set you back hundreds of pounds. On PSP though, it fills a fairly large genre gap.
October 2, 2009 - Good - Improvisation is the heart of loop crafting, and part of that is learning how to use any sound at all. Extend that to learning to use any tool available to bring sound out of your head and into the world, and Beaterator is a pretty good deal.
October 8, 2009 - Good - Beaterator isn't going to replace dedicated mid-level mixers, but its approachability and portability make it a useful addition, or introduction, to digital music production. It fills a space that the PSP library was lacking in comparison to the pocket sized musical creation tools on the DS and iPhone.
October 8, 2009 - Good - The product may suffer from the sort of identity crisis that's bound to befall any software semi-dressed as a videogame, with the Live Play environment and visualiser sitting awkwardly with the more serious elements of the package. But what it lacks in cohesive identity it more than makes up for with raw features.

September 29, 2009 - Good - If, you do have the desire and the knowledge, but don't have access to professional grade recording equipment, Beaterator provides an excellent and portable interim product to help would-be producing gurus the tools they need to express their genius.
November 6, 2009 - Good - All in all, Beaterator is a powerful piece of music creation software that's both fun, addictive, great value for money and unparalleled on any gaming platform.
October 13, 2009 - Good - The big draw for games involving music so far has been their universal accessibility, yet Beaterator is almost anything but accessible. I'm not saying that putting in the effort isn't worth it in the end, I am saying that today's market seems less likely to embrace a title that has a learning curve as steep as Brett Michael's declining rock-credibility.
September 28, 2009 - Good - If you're not a music person, you could have fun with Live Play mode for a little while, and if you're an audiophile, you may find yourself frustrated with the game's limitations - but if you're looking to compose some decent tunes for giggles, Beaterator is your game.
October 19, 2009 - Good - If you're a fan of hip-hop or electronic music and interested in creating your own tracks, then Beaterator is definitely worth a look.
September 29, 2009 - Good - You CAN make complete songs with Beaterator, it's just not as easy as it should be. It is a portable music studio for your PSP with many of the same features you find in expensive PC software for a mere $40, so that's saying a lot. But a portable music studio simply has to be easy to use, and Beaterator isn't there, yet.
October 8, 2009 - Good - Beaterator, as a tool, is really cool. The flexibility of the program and the functionality to share your creations with others makes this more than any average beat maker.
October 19, 2009 - Good - Slickly presented and impeccably well put together, Beaterator is an incredibly accomplished piece of music-making software that will keep you occupied for as long as you're invested in creating your own tracks.
October 16, 2009 - Good - Beaterator works simply because it provides a decent set of audio tools, and clear instructions on how to use them. At first you may feel a little overwhelmed by all the menus and libraries, but ultimately its sheer user-friendliness, the common controls, and omnipresent video tutorials win out the day.
October 13, 2009 - Good - All in all, Beaterator is an interesting and unique piece of software for the PSP handheld. If you have any interest in music creation, it's worth checking out and picking up.
