Critic Reviews
The following reviews are used to calculate the overall reception for this game. All applicable scores are converted to our simplified rating system based on the specifics offered by each publication or the tone of each review. You can read more about how we do this here.
September 13, 2010 - Good - Even if you aren't interested in taking this online the lengthy, branching campaign and bevy of unlocks will keep you satisfied until you've personally ensured that every last bogey has bought the farm.
September 7, 2010 - Good - Despite a somewhat uninspired campaign and a story that isn't terribly compelling, Joint Assault still provides more of the high-quality flying action we've come to associate with Ace Combat. Those willing to join forces with other pilots will find taking to these skies particularly enjoyable.
September 13, 2010 - Mediocre - It may take some finagling to find it, but there is a solid flight game beneath the problems. It's just a bummer that you have to dig into several menus, find some buddies, and replay the campaign repeatedly to get to it.
August 31, 2010 - Mediocre - Had Joint Assault been released on PS3, 360 or even PS2, it would have been a good, if derivative game. On PSP, it's a good game marred by control problems and real world visuals that are limited by the hardware.
September 10, 2010 - Mediocre - The campaign is repetitive, the dogfights are dull and the storyline is painful. However, if you have a group of friends with PSPs and a hankering for high-speed aerial maneuvering, then give Joint Assault some serious consideration. In the right hands, I could see it being a multiplayer hit.
September 8, 2010 - Mediocre - The game does nothing to spice up things or change the established franchise formula, and the amount of enjoyment you'll find is directly proportional to how much you love the series. This is a perfectly acceptable game, but it's also mostly boring and safe.
