Critic Reviews
The following reviews are used to calculate the overall reception for this game. All applicable scores are converted to our simplified rating system based on the specifics offered by each publication or the tone of each review. You can read more about how we do this here.
April 7, 2009 - Good - As a product, this package is recommendable to anyone who hasn't experienced the first game, or wishes to add it back to their current library. But as single-player games, the unsatisfying Dark Athena should be played as a curiosity and then put back where it belongs: in Butcher Bay's shadow.
April 20, 2009 - Good - It all adds up to just enough to be a recommended purchase, but one that comes with more caveats than fans will be comfortable with.
April 22, 2009 - Good - If you've never played Escape from Butcher Bay, this update is a must buy. However, if you're only after Assault on Dark Athena, a rental might be the smarter choice.
April 10, 2009 - Good - The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena is many things: an attractive rerelease of an amazing game, a mildly disappointing sequel, and a forgettable online experience. If you haven't played Butcher Bay, it's a must-play. If you have, be aware of the sequel's abundant shortcomings before making a purchase.
April 7, 2009 - Good - The chassis of Dark Athena is five years old and it makes for a safe and at times a predictable experience. Still, this is a credit crunch-busting package, and it's highly recommended.
March 31, 2009 - Good - If you played the original back in 2004, then there's little reason to pick this game up. However, if you never played Riddick's first adventure it (and its modest follow-up) are worth checking out.
April 7, 2009 - Good - With two great games that will take somewhere in the region of 15-20 hours to complete, superb presentation and a sense that you're playing something different to the norm, The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena comes highly recommended.
April 5, 2009 - Mediocre - From the hoarding of bounty cards in lieu of collecting cigarettes to the fragmented attempt at blending stealth and action, Dark Athena feels like simplistic, frustrating, and shallow version of Butcher Bay.
