Critic Reviews
The following reviews are used to calculate the overall reception for this game. All applicable scores are converted to our simplified rating system based on the specifics offered by each publication or the tone of each review. You can read more about how we do this here.
October 3, 2007 - Excellent - The menu load time, framerate, and level repetition issues can detract from the gameplay experience. But we strongly recommend that you don't let these concerns stop you from playing Folklore.
October 8, 2007 - Good - While Folklore isn't really an RPG nor a straight adventure game, it has enough of both to appeal to many different players. It's not the best of its breed, and may well bore the average player before reaching the halfway point.
Tareq Shrourou
October 29, 2007 - Good - Folklore certainly has problems, but it will win you over in the end with mostly enjoyable gameplay.
October 5, 2007 - Good - Folklore is an enjoyable game that spins a good yarn and can be a lot of fun to play. It doesn't make a great first impression, but you should stick with it.
October 8, 2007 - Good - The curious mechanics and calculated, indirect combat won't appeal to everyone, but anyone that appreciates outlandish character design and trippy visuals should at least give it a try.
October 4, 2007 - Good - Folklore is a damn good game in its own right. Visually, it's everything we've hoped for - even if it isn't exactly the RPG we all wanted. It's an "action-RPG" that tips the scales heavily in favor of the action.
October 4, 2007 - Good - Despite its pretty package, many of the game's strongest points are marred by incongruities that keep it from excelling in a genre where excellence has already long been established.
October 11, 2007 - Good - Folklore is a beautifully realised faery-filled fantasy which is let down by some poor design and repetitive combat.
Dave McCarthy
July 27, 2007 - Mediocre - Folklore turns out to be one part boring adventure game, one part underdeveloped collect-em up, and one part standard dungeon crawl.
October 4, 2007 - Poor - We can't stand Folklore and want to body slam Sony for ruining what could have been one of the PlayStation 3's best games.
