Critic Reviews The following reviews are used to calculate the overall reception for this game. All applicable scores are converted to our simplified rating system based on the specifics offered by each publication or the tone of each review. You can read more about how we do this here.
September 27, 2010 - Excellent - FIFA Soccer 11 is the gold standard for the soccer experience in gaming. It's rare that you'll find a game that's this deep, this entertaining, this customizable, and just flat out fun, to boot. EA knows when it's time to innovate, and when it's time to refine, and this year's edition of the game is all about refinement, but, when the raw material is this good, it's all gravy.
October 4, 2010 - Excellent - FIFA 11 is a fantastic package of football for novices and the hardcore footie zealots. The gameplay tweaks have created a sports game where you'll never play the same match twice thanks to the unpredictability of proceedings.
September 27, 2010 - Excellent - It's still baby steps improvement-wise, which is likely to annoy those who might be expecting more. But we're football fans, so we're more forgiving and a bit mental when it comes to these things: FIFA 11 is the best football game on PS3.
October 26, 2010 - Excellent - FIFA 11 might not be the big jump that FIFA 10 was, but with a sense of realism we haven't seen before in a soccer title and plenty of modes to keep you busy, it is the perfect game for any soccer fan.
October 15, 2010 - Excellent - Football games are slowly reaching a plateau with non-pitch improvements, but there's no doubt that this year's FIFA is the best yet. To many it'll still seem ludicrous that sports games are worth the purchase every year, but for anyone who's ever kicked a football in their life, this is the definitive choice.
September 28, 2010 - Excellent - You could argue that FIFA 11 doesn't do enough to warrant a purchase if you already own FIFA 10, but small changes on paper have made for some significant differences on the pitch. FIFA 11 feels far more realistic than its predecessor, while also packing in a smattering of new features.
September 27, 2010 - Good - FIFA's always a recommendable experience, and as long as we're in the "roster update" mode of sports releases, every edition is worth getting for hardcore soccer fans. I just hope EA isn't on the trajectory of 2006 World Cup winners Italy, who rose to glory around the same time FIFA did...only to find out, too late, that they were sadly over the hill four years later.
September 27, 2010 - Good - At its best FIFA 11 is enormous fun and brilliantly engineered, but in its battle to be more varied and realistic it has lost some of its momentum, and off the pitch returns are starting to diminish too.
September 28, 2010 - Good - All of the EA Sports titles I've played this year curiously follow a similar pattern: They feature solid gameplay with some new features that are interesting but don't necessarily change the world or solve old, lingering problems. In other words, FIFA 11 lands just short of greatness.
September 28, 2010 - Good - I still wish the AI played a bit less robotic and that "Career" mode had a bit more life to it, but this is clearly the best this game has ever been with some significant gameplay improvements, and it's hard to ask for much more than that out of a yearly release.
October 1, 2010 - Good - There may not be any new revolutionary new game modes this year, but with matches, leagues, tournaments, multiple career options, and 11 versus 11 online, it's as feature-packed a football game as you could want.
September 27, 2010 - Good - FIFA 11 delivers a more refined soccer experience for fans of the sport, while also giving us things like enhanced physical interactions and the same solid online package. In other words: if you're looking for a great game of soccer with a fine feature set that offers plenty to do online or off, FIFA 11 will end your search until next year rolls around.
September 29, 2010 - Good - If you're a social gamer that enjoys playing games against friends then chances are you'll enjoy the improvements made on the pitch. However if you're the type of gamer that prefers to experiment with the single-player modes you'll likely end up feeling a little underwhelmed.
December 26, 2010 - Good - For FIFA veterans, FIFA 11's tweaks take a while to get used to. The style of play has changed just enough so that players will be frustrated during the initial hours. After a few hours, FIFA 11 clicks and becomes an incredible game of football for both veterans and newcomers alike.
