The following reviews are used to calculate the overall reception for this game. All applicable scores are converted to our simplified rating system based on the specifics offered by each publication or the tone of each review. You can read more about how we do this here.
July 8, 2009 - Excellent - Whatever platform you play games on, Trine's got the gameplay and the looks to make it well worth your time and money.
July 3, 2009 - Good - Immediately likeable, hugely enjoyable and brimming with charming detail every step of the way, your enjoyment may depend on how many friends you can share the journey with, but few would regret time spent in the company of this trio.

July 24, 2009 - Good - Trine is a very good game in many ways; yet, it simply does not stand out enough to warrant its price tag.
July 7, 2009 - Good - Trine is undoubtedly beautiful, and that beauty will draw you in from beginning to end. The visual magic doesn't translate into equally amazing gameplay, though the action and platforming are smooth and rewarding on their own--a few rough patches aside.
Tom Francis
July 16, 2009 - Good - In single-player, the first four hours are just about good enough to be worth the not-to-be sneezed-at price on Steam. With friends and a couple of gamepads, though, it's too much fun to miss.
July 20, 2009 - Good - If you've been sniffing around for a whiff of nostalgia, Trine will definitely appeal to your senses. Yes, it's fairly light on content, skimps a bit on frills, and doesn't break much new ground. But for a solid few hours of enjoyment, this ingenious reconstruction of a forgotten genre is definitely worth a try.

August 6, 2009 - Good - A lack of enemy variety, disappointing conclusion, and the wonky multiplayer keep Trine from greatness, but this is still a highly recommended puzzle platformer.
July 15, 2009 - Good - Trine is, if you've the slightest whiff of interest in an exquisitely beautiful puzzle-platformer, definitely a game you should buy. But probably not at the current £20/$30 price points, unless you're remarkably cash rich.

July 22, 2009 - Good - Trine is an easy-going, fun filled blast from the past that will entice both gaming veterans and casual new comers.
Tom Orry
July 2, 2009 - Good - Trine isn't as new and exciting as current 2D platforming king Braid was on its release, but its combination of tight controls, exiting action and physics-based puzzles makes it easy to recommend to platforming fans.
