The following reviews are used to calculate the overall reception for this game. All applicable scores are converted to our simplified rating system based on the specifics offered by each publication or the tone of each review. You can read more about how we do this here.
January 7, 2012 - Excellent - If you just want to enjoy the latest Star Wars spectacle, then by all means pick this up, because you'll get a big dose of the Force, starships, bounty hunters, and the Empire versus Rebels action that you surely crave.
Adam Harshberger
January 10, 2012 - Excellent - Already a solid MMO, Star Wars: The Old Republic is propelled into the stratosphere by its innovative and forward-thinking use of storytelling devices. It's immaculately presented, too.
January 18, 2012 - Excellent - If BioWare can get over their identity crisis and make TOR increasingly more unique with future updates, this could be one of the best MMOs ever. For now, it's 'merely' excellent, and a bold experiment in bringing a worthwhile story to an online experience.
December 22, 2011 - Excellent - I honestly have spent the last few years very seriously doubting that even BioWare could pull off something as frankly crazy as what The Old Republic is attempting to do. They have succeeded far beyond my admittedly high expectations. As a KOTOR fan, I finally have my long-awaited sequel(s). As an MMO fan, I am hooked. As a Star Wars fan, I am enthralled.
January 6, 2012 - Excellent - The Old Republic is worth a try. The characterization and settings are superb, regardless of what you think of the genre. BioWare has a lot of room for improvement and expansion, and I'm really excited to see where The Old Republic goes in the next few years. You should be, too.

January 5, 2012 - Excellent - It's not hard to see where all the millions of credits went. Star Wars: The Old Republic was a Sisyphean undertaking for Bioware. They've largely pulled it off too. Highly addictive it is.
Josh Augustine
December 22, 2011 - Excellent - The Old Republic plunges players into the Star Wars universe we've always wanted to live in, and succeeds as both and RPG and an MMO. And perhaps just as thrilling, there's an oversized Bantha's worth of potential in expanding areas like space combat and the companion system, or in adding new features like guild housing. This one's got a long, bright future ahead of it.
January 16, 2012 - Excellent - BioWare lived up to its promises to make story really matter in an MMO context with The Old Republic. Here, your characters are so much more than just avatars with stats. Buy it if you like at least two of the following: Star Wars, BioWare, or MMOs.
January 12, 2012 - Good - With so many interlinking systems, TOR can offer something for everyone regardless of play style. Early numbers suggest that fans are gravitating towards the game's PVP mechanics, but fans of co-op missions can get their fix through Flashpoints and Operations, while loners are capable of soloing their way to the level cap without the need for social interaction.
January 9, 2012 - Good - Each class has its own deep storyline to follow all the way to a level cap. That element means leveling up alternate characters has far more value than just providing the chance to try a new class' mechanics. But it also seems likely to create problems for BioWare moving forward.
January 11, 2012 - Good - BioWare hasn't cast itself as a guerrilla movement trying to subvert the MMOG with The Old Republic. Instead it's been the Empire, working to produce a slick, gigantic experience that, in the time of free-to-play, feels polished enough to demand monthly fees.
January 3, 2012 - Good - BioWare has done what many thought might be impossible, and delivered the world's second ever triple-A MMO. That is a mighty achievement and a huge relief. But it may yet turn out to be too little - or rather, too much - too late.
January 9, 2012 - Good - Star Wars: The Old Republic proves itself to be a competent MMO, one that, unlike so many of its ill-fated contemporaries, is sure to find significant popularity. But as with all newly-birthed MMO titles, there is work to be done.
Heinrich Lenhardt
December 19, 2011 - Good - The borderlines between MMORPGs and single-player games are not what they used to be. Star Wars: The Old Republic successfully blends engrossing storytelling with a persistent online world that can be explored alone or with other players.
January 16, 2012 - Good - This is a must play for fans of Star Wars who want a traditional MMO experience with high production values and a lot of spoken dialogue. If you're looking for an innovative MMO set in the Star Wars universe, you will likely be disappointed.
January 6, 2012 - Good - The surprises are few, but The Old Republic is nonetheless an online RPG of uncommon quality. And with a broad, overarching story to guide you through, you might even reach maximum level with a smile on your face, even if you are one to abandon an MMOG before that point. Such is the power of a beloved universe with so many tales still left to tell.
January 4, 2012 - Good - It succeeds as both an MMORPG and a Star Wars game -- and if you're feeling burned by the past 12 years' worth of Lucas' meddling, I leave you with a final bit of reassurance: In all of my travels, I've never once come across a mention of a midichlorian or a Gungan. That's gotta be worth something, right?
January 9, 2012 - Good - Massively-multiplayer online games are always a work-in-progress, so it's not surprising that Star Wars: The Old Republic's launch wasn't flawless. What matters is that it's an extremely satisfying experience that sets the stage for a bright future, so long as BioWare continues to support the game for the coming years with constant updates.
January 10, 2012 - Good - Star Wars: The Old Republic's unabashed resampling of the prevailing MMO model offers a valid and in many ways more approachable alternative to Blizzard's juggernaut. It's a great starting point for those curious about the genre, as well as a refreshing change of pace for seasoned MMO veterans.
December 23, 2011 - Good - SWTOR more than justifies the box price, which includes the first month online. Whether it's a universe that delivers a constant flow of new surprises and challenges is something that will decide how long punters continue to shell out £8.99 month. But for me it's an impressively epic start.
December 31, 2011 - Good - I've got a few concerns about endgame content and min-maxing morality choices, and there are certainly a mess of bugs that needs sorting out, but the quality is still high enough that I've got no reservations in recommending this to anyone to who fancies an MMO with an emphasis on making you feel like the only player that matters.
March 6, 2012 - Good - Star Wars: The OId Republic is a good game. It pays excellent homage to the film series, and is a really solid MMO. The crafting system and the interesting quest lines make it compelling and refreshing to level up, even if there's not a lot to do once you've finished that phase of the game.
January 9, 2012 - Good - It may carry a lot of the same foundations as other MMOs but BioWare has given the genre something it has desperately needed - actual RPG - and that can only spell good things for us all.
