Critic Reviews
The following reviews are used to calculate the overall reception for this game. All applicable scores are converted to our simplified rating system based on the specifics offered by each publication or the tone of each review. You can read more about how we do this here.
January 27, 2012 - Good - Developers Seamless Entertainment are actively patching and improving the title, and given that the main story ends around Saturn it seems highly likely that there will be more missions to come based around the other planets in the Solar System. As an affordable, accessible leap back into the shoes of a space fighter ace, Sol: Exodus is a success.
January 31, 2012 - Good - There's enjoyment to be had and parts of our souped up solar system make an attractive shooting gallery but the spice of life is sadly absent. Forever protecting others as they slowly escape, being an ace space commander is more a case of duty than derring-do.
February 1, 2012 - Good - A solid, if bite-sized, space combat game that revitalizes a defunct genre with excellent flight combat and only a few missteps. If you're bored to death with trying to get Wing Commander to play on your PC, you'll enjoy romping through Sol: Exodus for a spell.
January 27, 2012 - Mediocre - A few of the later missions make slight improvements from the poor baseline the game establishes early on, but even Sol: Exodus' best scenarios never overcome the limitations of its mind-numbing mechanics. There's some amusement inherent in making bad guys go boom, but this $10 title never moves beyond that basic level of competency.
January 30, 2012 - Mediocre - It's a damn shame there are so many issues that are likely beyond the power of mere patches, because the space shooter genre badly needs a new classic to really get it going again.
January 27, 2012 - Mediocre - Sol: Exodus may be a step in the right direction to bring back space combat games, but it certainly won't be the title that inspires a generation to demand more. Any gamer, and especially PC gamer, over 25 probably wants the genre to flourish like it used to, but a game like Sol, with all its bugs, repetitive levels and lackluster narrative, won't be what brings it back.
