Critic Reviews
The following reviews are used to calculate the overall reception for this game. All applicable scores are converted to our simplified rating system based on the specifics offered by each publication or the tone of each review. You can read more about how we do this here.
March 5, 2010 - Excellent - ACII is a sequel that delivers more than it actually promised - not only correcting the mistakes of the first game, but introducing new mechanics that make its culturally authentic open world and story come to life. Assassin's Creed II is a prime example of the genre that is even better on PC and well worth waiting for.

December 27, 2009 - Excellent - This is an exceptional platformer as much as an action game - the combat is one of the less valuable accomplishments - with a narrative thrust, and finding a reward at the end of all those leaps and jumps is just so good.
November 17, 2009 - Excellent - We've been quite cautious in our coverage of the game, believing that the original's flawed design had too many pitfalls to overcome. However they've done it. Perhaps the ultimate testimony is the fact that it left us longing for another sequel, something the original certainly never achieved.
March 8, 2010 - Good - Assassin's Creed II is a fun and beautiful game that gives you the freedom to explore while still offering a focused adventure steeped in atmosphere. It's also an expensive one, retailing at $60, a full $10 more than most PC games sell for at launch.
March 12, 2010 - Good - This is one case where the sequel has triumphed over the original by catching the gameplay up to the already excellent visuals. No matter what your preconceptions are about Assassin's Creed II, the game is well worth your time and money.
March 9, 2010 - Mediocre - It's brilliant. Don't buy it. The copy protection of Assassin's Creed II requires you to be connected to publisher Ubisoft's servers every moment you play. Any interruption to that connection kicks you out and erases all the progress you've made since the last checkpoint. We cannot wholly recommend a game that imposes such stringent and potentially problematic restrictions on paying customers without good reason.
