The following reviews are used to calculate the overall reception for this game. All applicable scores are converted to our simplified rating system based on the specifics offered by each publication or the tone of each review. You can read more about how we do this here.
July 7, 2009 - Good - With a scenario-scripting editor as deep and efficient as any seen in a game, providing instant simulatory skirmishes and enduring co-op crusades alike, ArmA 2 is, for all its snafus, a commanding presence.
June 17, 2009 - Good - [The] unapologetic realism, combined with high headcounts, huge maps, and splendid opportunities for joint ops, means ArmA II is sure to replace its predecessor as the MP weapon of choice for the discerning infantry simmer.
July 24, 2009 - Good - If the developers can solve their AI woes and improve the interface in future patches, many of the game's flaws may dissolve and the impressive package that sits just blow the surface may rise up. But for the moment, ARMA2 is sadly swallowed by the black hole of its own sheer ambition.
July 22, 2009 - Good - Bohemia is taking the exact same "release now, make awesome later" approach they have with their previous games. For those really on the fence, I'd say give this game a bit of time and come back in about a month or two as the developers try to work their post release magic.
July 20, 2009 - Good - Despite its faults, Arma II is an incredibly versatile and entertaining military simulation. While the bugs are disappointing, they are overshadowed by everything Arma II does right.
July 14, 2009 - Good - Even for those willing to invest the time to learn all there is to know about ArmA 2, the glitches and the bugs are currently too much to take. Maybe once they've patched it up, there will be something more playable.
August 12, 2009 - Good - ARMA II is as buggy and frustrating game as you may play in modern gaming. What makes this so bad, is that it is actually a cool game when it works.
July 2, 2009 - Good - I love having dozens and dozens of realistic weapons and vehicles and highly detailed geography and ballistics modeling, but the unintuitive interface required to manage it all and the irregularities in the scripting make it hard to appreciate those qualities.
June 19, 2009 - Good - [ArmA II] is a game that makes you work for your fun, and that asks you to overlook a good deal of awkwardness, as well as a fair few technical hiccups - though I am sure that these will be sorted with future patches.
July 13, 2009 - Poor - I cannot handle the fact that the game is so undeniably, blatantly, shamefully broken. I really want to like this game. I really want to play it. But I don't and I won't. We get the game we've been sold, not the game we wished we had.
