Good - Alien Swarm is a great multiplayer co-op experience. Though it's not without issues, they're not game breaking in the least, and a strong community - even a few days after release - helps to make Alien Swarm a free game that stands out amongst heavily priced competition.

Good - This game has an instant online community thanks to the zero-cost outlay, so servers are numerous, even if the Steam network occasionally struggles to support everyone. Simply put, anyone with a capable PC should download this and try it.

Good - Ultimately, because this is a free title, the real question is whether it's worth your time. It is. Alien Swarm exemplifies the robustness of PC gaming. On no other platform would a game this involved be available for free download, and as fans create more content using the provided code and design tools, the value will only improve.

Mediocre - At least Alien Swarm doesn't try to be anything other than what it is. It's an online action shooter with plenty of things to shoot at. It might have been more atmospheric if it were in first person, but it might have been horribly broken too. So if you like blowing aliens into green little pieces, give Alien Swarm a shot.
