Critic Reviews
The following reviews are used to calculate the overall reception for this game. All applicable scores are converted to our simplified rating system based on the specifics offered by each publication or the tone of each review. You can read more about how we do this here.
January 27, 2012 - Good - The combat in Hero Academy is simple enough for most players to pick up easily, but there's enough depth to make each quick round surprisingly satisfying. The only trick is making sure you have a group of friends to play with... and who will take their turn in a timely manner. Otherwise you'll spend much of your time waiting instead of actively playing.
January 23, 2012 - Good - Expansions have already been promised; if Robot Entertainment can maintain the game's delicate balance through sensibly-priced updates, then Hero Academy could become a more permanent distraction for smartphone strategists.
January 17, 2012 - Good - This is a nice game that may well turn into a great game: if the players continue to stick around, if the developer doesn't let the micro-transactions take over, and if the design team keeps its eye out for bugs and exploits that emerge as people start to get really serious.
January 11, 2012 - Good - Hero Academy feels like the start of something special that's only half-finished right now. The gameplay is great, as are the graphics, but it still needs some additional content before it's something to recommend to all gamers. Still, if you're patient and can get past these quirks, you're in for a great strategy experience.

January 16, 2012 - Good - Hero Academy's gameplay probably won't satisfy hardcore turn-based gamers. There's no AI to speak of, so you can't sharpen your skills against the computer before you hop online. [...] That said, the casual, easy-going nature of Hero Academy is also its strength. As a generous freemium title, it's worth a look.
January 17, 2012 - Poor - Hero Academy is simple, simplistic, and ultimately unsatisfying. You might as well find a friend and take turns punching each other in the arm to see who gives up first.
