Critic Reviews The following reviews are used to calculate the overall reception for this game. All applicable scores are converted to our simplified rating system based on the specifics offered by each publication or the tone of each review. You can read more about how we do this here.
March 4, 2010 - Excellent - Not only has it established a winning cast of characters, and a formula for fun-packed gameplay, its latest title, Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth shows that there are still lots of ways both cast and formula can be effectively improved and expanded upon.
February 18, 2010 - Good - If you've played the other Ace Attorney games, then you should be unabashedly enthusiastic about this latest entry in the series. The mechanics may not seem as new, and you're always several steps ahead of the story, but the eccentric cast of characters in Ace Attorney is always fun to meet again.
February 22, 2010 - Good - The fifth game in the Ace Attorney series has a new protagonist, but players familiar with the franchise will find most of what they've come to expect. There are plenty of awful pun-names, ludicrous characters, and frustrating puzzles.
February 15, 2010 - Good - [The game is] so gorgeously loveable. Edgeworth was an inspired choice to take the lead role. The cast is ever-changing and hilarious. It's bursting with happiness. And so am I when I play it.
February 16, 2010 - Good - Even with a few new features, Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth doesn't stray too far from its roots, but many fans would probably argue that that's not a bad thing. The game retains all of the challenge and charm of its predecessors, and it's a treat to be able to play as the ever-smarmy Edgeworth.
February 16, 2010 - Good - Usually, there's a snowballing sense of urgency to solve the last case, but the end of Investigations just drags on. I enjoyed my time with Edgeworth, but it's the weakest entry in the series.
February 16, 2010 - Good - Miles Edgeworth is worth picking up if you're an Ace Attorney fan, as the cameos are delightful. Newcomers to the series will have reasons to enjoy it as well, as it's a good showcase of the formula, but if you never bought into the courtroom hijinks, this is one you can safely ignore.
March 3, 2010 - Good - As with all the four games before it, Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth takes the usual adventure gaming tropes and surrounds them with delightfully complex cases and a healthy dollop of character whackines.
February 16, 2010 - Good - Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth is a strong adventure game with an intricate storyline and a successful twist on the gameplay formula of its predecessors. Its text-based narrative is slow but solid, while new gameplay elements with the chance to explore the world outside the courtroom make for a lot of tight situations, charming locations, and madcap characters.
February 17, 2010 - Good - Edgeworth's solo adventure is a good first step toward evolving Ace Attorney; if the developers can tweak the difficulty up a bit without making it seem too merciless, the Investigations spinoff series might just overtake its parent in terms of both gameplay and narrative creativity.
February 16, 2010 - Good - Where Wright's outings balanced comedy and surprising brutality Edgeworth's case lacks the same subtle viciousness. In particular, the finale is missing a monstrous opponent. Yes, the jolly fan service is never soiled by unpleasantness, but for a prosecutor famed for his bite, Edgeworth can sometimes lack teeth.
March 8, 2010 - Good - Miles Edgeworth's take on the franchise doesn't pack on too many surprises, but is nonetheless faithful to the tenets that make Ace Attorney great. It isn't the next big evolution that the series was aiming for, but as simply the next game in an esteemed line of whimsical court sims, this portable prosecutor presents a case well worth investigating.
February 16, 2010 - Good - While there are some really strong elements added for Miles Edgeworth, the core is still trial-and-error gameplay. Some of the logic left me scratching my head and it's entirely too linear. Fans of the Ace Attorney series will like it, no doubt about that, but there's also no denying that the series is running out of steam.
February 17, 2010 - Good - If you're a fan of the Ace Attorney games you should find plenty to enjoy in Ace Attorney Investigations. You may initially be slightly disappointed at the lack of belly laughs, particularly in the first case where there are only a couple of chuckles to be had courtesy of Gumshoe, but things do get more amusing later on.
March 3, 2010 - Good - Investigations is a wonderful addition to the series, and proves that the series still has much to offer despite concerns that it was becoming ever so slightly formulaic.
February 16, 2010 - Good - Compared to most other games, the interactions here may seem minimal. But that doesn't mean that Edgeworth and friends won't manage to get their hooks into you.
February 19, 2010 - Good - Although this fifth entry is not the series' strongest, it's a solid and worthy purchase for fans of the genre or casual gamers who are looking for an entertaining story.
March 3, 2010 - Mediocre - Ace Attorney Investigations is a mystery novel with no suspense. It's indicative of an identity crisis, wherein the series started out as a murder mystery, but now caters to fans who had more fun with the inane drama.
