Critic Reviews The following reviews are used to calculate the overall reception for this game. All applicable scores are converted to our simplified rating system based on the specifics offered by each publication or the tone of each review. You can read more about how we do this here.
February 14, 2012 - Good - Tekken 3D Prime Edition definitely gets props for recreating the fast combat and fluidity of the series on a handheld. However, the lack of any real depth in the modes and lack of customization features for your fighters makes it tough to want to spend an extended amount of time with it.
February 13, 2012 - Good - If all you're looking for is constant Tekken action on the bus with arcade-perfect timing and a full roster of 40 characters, then Tekken 3D is an essential purchase. Those who take satisfaction from making some sort of progress through a game, however, will be disappointed to find there isn't much meat on Tekken 3D's impressively strong bones.
April 16, 2012 - Mediocre - Despite the over-the-top character roster, solid graphics, and unwavering adherence to basic fighting conventions, there's nothing here that really commands attention. It's a Tekken game, but stripped bare.
March 5, 2012 - Mediocre - With the crossover Capcom games right around the corner as well as Tekken Tag Tournament 2 on the immediate horizon, there's no reason that the faithful - or the curious - shouldn't just wait for a better, more fully featured version of the game to release.
February 15, 2012 - Mediocre - If you love Tekken and don't mind the inherent control limitations of the 3DS, the portable multiplayer experience may be reason enough to justify your purchase. If you're looking for a portable fighting game that mimics the content found in console titles, however, you should look elsewhere.
February 17, 2012 - Mediocre - Tekken 3D Prime Edition may be technically proficient, but with little interesting solo content and a clunky online experience, we struggled to stay interested. Kudos to Namco Bandai for raising the bar on 3D fighters' frame rates, but beyond that, it's tough to get excited about a game that seems content with the bare minimum.
February 22, 2012 - Mediocre - If 3DS owners are lucky, Namco Bandai won't wait another ten years to release another Tekken for Nintendo portables, and hopefully it will build on Tekken 3D's strong foundation to create a complete Tekken experience.
March 8, 2012 - Mediocre - Is it worth it? Well, if you're only a casual Tekken fan, I'd say no. You'd be much better off picking up Tekken 6 for a home console if you're after something meaty. But if you're a diehard fan, maybe you'd appreciate being able to hone your craft on the go. If that's the case, then you can at least be sure that the fights themselves are well done.
February 27, 2012 - Mediocre - Tekken 3D nails its formula but doesn't provide much room to show off and flex it. As far as arcade fighters go, there are better, more substantial alternatives now with much cheaper price tags.
March 12, 2012 - Poor - What do you get for your money? Beyond standard fighting or five, 10 and 20 fighter survival modes, not very much at all. Clearly there are enough Tekken fans out there to justify the conversion but it all simply boils down to pixels slapping pixels and that gets very boring, very quickly.
