January 25, 2012 - Excellent - Mutant Mudds is platforming distilled to its essence. It cuts the fat in order to deliver a pure, satisfying experience. More than anything, it demonstrates that "retro" should not just be pixel graphics and chiptunes but rather a thorough understanding of the basics that made a genre popular in the first place.

February 1, 2012 - Good - Mutant Mudds is well-made, well-considered, and well-designed. It has its shortcomings, sure, but it marks yet another solid digital release for the increasingly robust 3DS software library. Any fan of hard-as-nails classic platformers is bound to love it.
February 8, 2012 - Good - Despite being developed by a company called Renegade Kid, Mutant Mudds plays it safe. It never went out to set the world on fire - and it doesn't - but it ascends above its humble concepts with gusto and aplomb.
February 14, 2012 - Good - Mutant Mudds' simple yet challenging gameplay makes Max's adventure more than a nostalgic romp through a colorful 8-bit land. Despite a degree of repetitiveness, the game's cleverly designed stages and unique 3D aspect help it stand on its own. Anyone craving classic platforming action should give Mutant Mudds a try.
January 26, 2012 - Good - Mutant Mudds is a fitting homage to the 8-bit era of gaming. It's got lots of personality, and though its gameplay may be a bit too simplified, the clever, challenging levels still provide plenty of good times. Retro gaming enthusiasts should particularly enjoy this title, though all 3DS owners shouldn't think twice about adding this download to their collection.
